A staple in many kitchens down the East Coast, the Empire apple has a creamy flesh covered by mottled red blush and, grown in our area, is topped with green around the stem. Not best for storage, but still a hardy apple. Small/medium sized, sweet, and balanced; the Empire takes color and flavor from its McIntosh and Red Delicious parentage. Available September through December. Best stored in the refrigerator.

Particularly loved for use in applesauce and apple dumplings. A popular baking apple; complements any meal or snack.
