On October 15th, our team visited W. W. Robinson Elementary School to participate in the PALs program alongside FFA students from Central High School, in celebration of National Farm to School Month. Students from 1st grade joined in for an apple-themed afternoon full of learning and fun.
Learning How Apples Grow
The day began with a reading of “Apples for Everyone” by Jill Esbaum. This engaging story sparked curiosity and excitement among the young learners as they discovered how apple trees grow through the seasons, the many different uses of apples, and even a bit of the history behind apple cultivation. The book’s beautiful, vivid illustrations truly captured their attention and inspired great discussion.
Engaging Students Through Hands-On Learning
After storytime, the fun continued with coloring sheets and apple stickers for everyone to enjoy. Students eagerly colored their favorite types of apples, whether red, green, or yellow, and a few creative artists even invented their own unique varieties. To top it all off, everyone got to enjoy a snack of fresh, delicious apples, which impressed the children with their size and flavor.
Celebrating Community Partnerships in Agriculture
We’d like to thank W. W. Robinson Elementary School for the invitation and the FFA students from Central High School for welcoming us into one of their weekly activities. It was a wonderful way to celebrate National Farm to School Month and connect students to the importance of local agriculture and healthy foods.
