Apple Cider Margarita With Rocktown Kitchen

This month we are joined by Addie at Rocktown Kitchen in Downtown Harrisonburg, where she shares two delicious recipes for fall drinks with big flavors. For these drinks, we’re using Shenandoah Valley Orchard’s versatile and delicious Evercrisp apples.

EverCrisp Apples

True to their name, EverCrisp apples are known for their exceptional crispness. They have a satisfying crunch with each bite that can’t be beat. While that crunch makes it a great snack, its firmness makes it an ideal apple for baking.Their EverCrisp apples are medium to large in size and have red or pink skin with prominent yellow striping. They are often described as having a honeyed sweetness with a subtle acidity and are a lovely balance of sweet and tart. EverCrisp can also be stored for an extended period of time, so stocking up is highly recommended.

Apple Cider Margarita

Addie mixed up our first drink, an autumn inspired take on a classic margarita, with apple cider from our friends at Showalter’s Orchard, tequila, sour mix, and Cointreau liqueur.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Tequila
  • 0.5 oz Cointreau
  • 1.5 oz Sour Mix
  • 1.5 oz Apple Cider
  • Cinnamon sugar (for rim)
  • 1 Lime, juiced (for rim)
  • Thinly sliced apples (for garnish)
  • Cinnamon sticks, whole (for garnish)

Directions:

Step 1 & Done!

Mix the tequila, Cointreau, sour mix, and apple cider in a cocktail shaker with ice. Dip each glass rim into lime juice and add the cinnamon sugar to coat the rim. Pour your cocktail into your glasses and top off with ice. Garnish with freshly sliced Evercrisp apples and a whole cinnamon stick.

Mulled Apple Wine

If you’re in the mood for a warm autumn drink with a kick, Addie also showed us how to create mulled apple wine, which was even better than you are imagining. Enjoy this drink on a crisp fall afternoon or at a holiday party with snowflakes falling outside. It’s perfect to keep you warm well into winter.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Bottle Merlot (or any smooth red wine that you love!)
  • ¼ C Cognac
  • 2 Cinnamon sticks, whole
  • Evercrisp Apples & Oranges, sliced (to taste)
  • 2 TBSP Honey
  • Pinch of Cloves
  • 2-4 Star Anise

Directions:

Step 1 & Done!

Stir all of your ingredients into your crockpot. Cook on medium to high heat, letting the mixture get to barely a simmer. Once it reaches almost a simmer, turn the heat to low and cover. Let it sit and enjoy for anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours. After 3 hours, turn the heat off to keep the alcohol from cooking out.

Our visit to Rocktown Kitchen was amazing and made us appreciate the versatility and flavor of EverCrisp apples even more. We hope you enjoy these fun autumn cocktails, whether you’re relaxing on the porch or hosting a holiday party.
